The poll is worded as though "Shiveapedia" were either a centrally-run organization or else a single individual. Shouldn't stuff like that either be done or not depending on whether or not it would amuse the editors to do so? I personally have no interest in that stuff, but if someone wants to collect that data and collate it then I support their right to do so (and this seems like the logical place to post it).
I didn't vote because I'm not sure which of the four responses best suits my opinion, so I just described it here instead.Tbug 17:39, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
I created the poll because I wanted to gauge the wiki community's opinion on this topic. I don't want to start to add something this significant to the wiki only to find that the community doesn't want to contribute to it.
If this stuff is incorporated into Shiveapedia it has the potential to expand the wiki significantly but it would take a lot of resources to bring up to date. If it doesn't have the community behind it, it will take forever to bring it up to date and it will be a half-baked successor to the original character appearances database in which case I think it's probably better not to start such a project.
If the community does want it, it should express its desire for it or else I will defer laying the groundwork for it until it does. That means it needs to weigh in on this issue. If there are a significant number of votes for it then I will start on it but if there is not enough interest in it or the "No" votes out number the "Yes" ones then the status quo will be maintained. I intend to integrate most of the information contained in the database into the wiki through article pages and categories. I know it is possible because the wiki for the webcomic 8-Bit Theater uses this kind of system as can be seen here: http://8bittheater.w...ter_Appearances. I think we can build on that system with categories for each form of each character for each section and use the categories to keep count. Pretty much the only things we can't do on the wiki are drop down menus and filters. Thorenn 15:13, October 4, 2011 (UTC)
